Diana Maya holds two master’s degrees in Mechanical and in Environmental Engineering from the “Universidad de los Andes”, in Colombia, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the “Universidad Nacional de Colombia”. For her Master’s degree thesis, Ms. Maya received the “Golden Recycler Award” in 2006 in the Research Category given by the Environmental and Territorial Ministry of Colombia.
She has 15+ years of work experience in various aspects of the plastics industry across different companies around the world with her career spanning the plastics life cycle from raw materials to Brand owners, with a particular focus on packaging development. For the past eight years Eng. Maya has worked with Kuraray - EVAL as a Technical Service and Development Engineer for Latin America and the US. Her experience also includes 9 publications in Specialized Plastic & Food magazines and Multiple Patent applications. In her current roll in Kuraray America, Inc. she is responsible for R&D projects heavily involved in Sustainability challenges, such as the prevention of food waste & mitigating Plastics Environmental Impact using high barrier products like EVAL™ & PLANTIC™ to help with recyclability and compostability challenges in the packaging industry.
When she is not focusing her time on sustainability, Ms. Maya enjoys community volunteering, rock climbing, camping, dancing, and singing.
